The Sofia Library is the largest public library in the country, it services over 38 thousand readers. The library has 3 branches in Sofia – Lyulin, Serdika and Studentski Grad and a repository of over 1 million volumes. It is an established and frequented place for presentations of new books, exhibitions, concerts and for holding round table discussions.
Sofia Library develops intense educational and cultural activity together with schools and kindergartens in order to popularize reading in general.
Sofia Library policy is aimed at digitalization of our book heritage and widening the access to informational resources through the global network, creating attractive art spaces in order to attract new reading public and at participation in national campaigns to increase the urge for reading.
In the present project the Sofia Library participates with:
– An experienced team of specialists for scanning and documenting of items from the cultural heritage, creating an electronic catalogue and insertion of metadata on the digitalized items included in the project.
– A collection of anniversary newssheets and first publications of works in periodicals, as well as an Archive of the Periodicals before 1944.
– Experts in bibliography who take part in the development of the cultural-historical profiles of the classical writers included in the project.
